A Little Romance

“Romance is the glamour which turns the dust of everyday life into a golden haze.”
― Elinor Glyn

Well prairie people, it’s almost that time of year again. Valentine’s Day is coming soon and it brings, depending on your perspective, either a welcome celebration of romance or an eye-rolling, over-commercialized retail-fest.

I’m kind of over the hearts and flowers version of romance, but I love the idea of honoring connection, decadence and life’s little pleasures. Slowing down and taking time to indulge in experiences that bring you joy is something you can do every day of the year, whether you’re single or partnered up.

I think that version of romance, one that’s grounded in the senses, truly does have the power to get us out of our own heads and get us dreaming. And in this crazy busy world of results and efficiency, I think that’s a very good thing.

So tell me a little about your favorite indulgences. If you’re on Twitter, join us for the #Prairie Places Twitter Chat on January 25 (that’s tomorrow) at 8:00 p.m. CST. (If you’re not on Twitter, just keep reading to learn how you can chime in.)

If you’ve never done a Twitter Chat before, don’t stress, it’s really fun and easy. Follow me @PrairieStylFile if you haven’t done that already. Then check out Twitter at 8 p.m. tomorrow night. I’ll post five questions for everyone to answer, one every ten or fifteen minutes.

If you stop by late, that’s totally fine — just catch up when you can. You can always search for my Twitter profile or the #PrairiePlaces hashtag to see what we’re talking about. And feel free to share about any of the questions you may have missed at any time.

Here’s what we’ll be talking about tomorrow #PrairiePlaces Twitter Chat questions, in case you want to prepare in advance.

Question 1: Where do you go to enjoy a totally luxurious/romantic/sexy atmosphere?
Question 2: What are the most indulgent experiences in your city or state?
Question 3: If you absolutely had to celebrate Valentine’s Day, where would you go? What would you do?
Question 4: Where do you find the most decadent treats?
Question 5: Where do you go to unwind, relax and get away from it all?

To answer a question, just indicate the question you’re responding to by typing “A1, A2” etc. and include the hashtag #PrairiePlaces. The hashtag lets everyone in the chat see your reply, even if they’re not currently following you.

If you have photos, add them! You can also share links to articles or websites and invite friends to join the conversation. This chat is open to everybody. These chats tend to be mostly individuals, but businesses, non-profits and tourism organizations are always welcome.

And if you have questions, feel free to ask the group. It’s a great way to meet new people, get inspired and maybe even find some new places to explore. You might even be featured in an upcoming Prairie Style File post!

If you’re not on Twitter and don’t plan to be, you can still participate. Just comment below this post to tell me about your favorite spots and I’ll pass them on during the chat tomorrow. Or you can comment on Facebook or Instagram if you follow me on those platforms.

I look forward to talking with you tomorrow!
