Gothic Glamour from One Kings Lane

Welcome to my inaugural Sunday Style post! Every Sunday this summer I’ll bring you a look I love, styling tips for your wardrobe or your home, a local boutique, a chat with a designer or a Street Style snapshot.

Today’s Sunday Style profile is one part Reader Request, one part necessity and total serendipity. A reader contacted me months ago looking for style inspiration for a super-sexy modern boudoir — think “50 Shades of Grey” with a feminine twist. Then my zany one year-old somehow managed to shatter my full length mirror (without hurting himself, somewhat miraculously) and suddenly I had to rethink my whole getting ready set-up.

So when the crew from One Kings Lane asked me to design my dream vanity for their “Reflect Your Style” campaign, it all came together.

I was browsing through their mirror selection when — boom — there it was: one crazy perfect mirror.

Sardis-Baroque-Mirror

It’s striking, dramatic and a totally unexpected shade of eggplant that somehow works.

Now this was a wildcard, even for me. My style is usually much more streamlined, eclectic and global — think Midcentury Modern meets international traveler.

I don’t know if it’s all those “Maleficent” trailers I’ve been seeing or the fact that the new season of “True Blood” starts next week, but I just can’t get the gothic curves of this mirror out of my head.

Edgy Glamour, Gothic Style

I love the idea of mixing something so strong and dark with stereotypically feminine finishes and textures. The console table is ultra glam, but its clean lines let the statement mirror take center stage. And the furry stool totally reminds me of the marabou trim on a starlet’s dressing slippers.

Add a vase of luscious peonies, some dead sexy shoes and throw on something a little tough and unexpected (I’m partial to leather, skulls or a shock of bold lipstick, myself) and you’ve got a seductive retreat that’s totally unique.

If gothic isn’t really your thing, One Kings Lane has some other mirrors that might be more your style.
