Holiday Gift Guide: The Lady

This holiday season, I’m excited to bring you gift ideas for everyone on your list, selected from some of my favorite local shops and artisans. First up — the lady.

I’m talking about the woman — your mom, an aunt, the impossibly chic co-worker whose name you picked in the Secret Santa drawing — who always looks perfect and tailored.

Shopping for a lady can be intimidating — she already has fantastic taste and beautiful things — but it doesn’t have to be. She appreciates quality, beautiful craftsmanship, practicality and a certain timeless elegance. Here are a few gift ideas that are as classic as she is.

Luxurious Scarves

A scarf makes a beautiful gift — it’s simple, elegant and practical.

These are from O’Day Cache, my favorite local scarf source.

Not only does Cindy O’Day travel the globe to find beautiful, soft scarves in candy colors and elegant patterns, but during the holiday season, you get a silk box (a $14.95 value) for free with the purchase of two scarves. So you won’t even need to worry about wrapping paper!
Available locally at O’Day Cache

Elegant Stationary

A lady still writes notes by hand, so get her some stationary that’s as unique as she is. This gift is as pretty as it is practical.

These colorful little notes come in a box that’s just as eye-catching as what’s inside.

Available locally at Zandbroz Variety in Fargo and Sioux Falls.

Soy Candles
These candles smell amazing and they last forever. Plus, they’re eco-friendly, chemical free and made with pure fragrance oils.

The Cranberry Currant Watermelon and Creme Brulee are my favorites.

Available locally at Shannalee in Fargo and online here

Archipelago Botanicals Milk Products

These bath and body products are made with milk, soy and oat.

I realize that doesn’t sound very sexy, but the results are miraculous. This is a must for any lady in a harsh winter climate.

Christmas Ornaments

Sometimes it’s nice to get a present that’s purely beautiful.

These hypnotic glass bulbs from local artist Jon Offutt are a perfect choice. They look good on the tree and great on display after the holidays.

Available locally at Reed and Taylor Antiques, The Store at Plains Art Museum and at special events at Jon’s studio, House of Mulciber

In all my Holiday Gift Guides, I’ve made an effort to promote local businesses and artists I love, but I understand that not all of you live in the area.

If the item is available online, I’ve listed that as well, but I’d always encourage you to reach out to the local vendor first. Small businesses may be able to price match or offer other promotions and services to earn and keep your business.
