I was expecting Mezzaluna to be good, but I wasn’t expecting the best steak of my life! Sara and Eric Watson’s Balsamic Grilled New York Strip is a great example of what’s on their menu — flavorful, artisan food that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
The steak (medium, if you’re curious) was perfection on its own (and I’m a girl who’s usually pretty ambivalent about steak) and the candied bacon and blue cheese on top made it seriously addictive. Derrick ordered it, but we couldn’t stop sharing. This is a sign of a good meal in my book, especially in a fine dining restaurant, where there’s usually pressure to be on your best behavior.
The atmosphere is special — the crystal chandeliers and the clamshell booths from the space’s previous incarnation as Silver Moon Supper Club are still there — but the crowd is laid back, a mix of couples on dates, big groups, foodies and a fun crowd at the bar.
I love that Mezzaluna lists Mac n Cheese as a signature dish! This havarti dill version was rich, but not overly heavy or cheesy, with a ton of smoked bacon for a rich flavor.
Is my bacon addiction obvious yet?
Our server said that the Mac n Cheese will be on the bar menu soon, which is excellent news if you’re on a budget – selected appetizers and drinks are just $7.
There are so many things I want to try — the burger, Pan Seared Scallops, Asian Style Meatballs and more of the amazing crab cakes we tried are first on the list — so we’ll definitely be back.
