My Favorite Brunch Spots in Fargo

Mother’s Day is right around the corner and everybody’s talking about brunch. I totally support any tradition that encourages the consumption of breakfast foods after noon (and mimosas before!), but why limit brunch to special occasions?

There’s nothing better than hanging out with friends over hot coffee and thick slices of bacon on a lazy Sunday morning. Nobody has to cook, kids are welcome and you can roll out of bed late without worrying about missing all the breakfast-y goodness.

My two favorite brunch spots in the Fargo just happen to be right across the street from each other, so even if one dining room is full, you can usually find a table at the other.

The Sweet Spot: Basie’s Restaurant and Lounge

The Ramada is a favorite for holiday brunches, but Basie’s rolls out an amazing brunch spread every Sunday.

You’ll find all the brunch classics like the build-your-own omelet spread and the chefs carving up thick slices of meat at the carving station in this comfortably elegant dining room.

But the wild card is a can’t-miss dessert selection, an entire table — and usually several tiered displays — laden with clusters of buttery cookies, pastel macaroons, tiny petit fours and amazing little tarts. Trust me, you won’t be able to choose just one.

Breakfast Done Right: Granite City
Okay, so breakfast is major part of any brunch, but that doesn’t mean that all brunch spots do breakfast food equally well. Granite City (a Midwestern chain based out of St. Cloud, Minnesota) does breakfast food best.

You’ll find fluffy scrambled eggs, flaky croissant, sweet scones, crisp bacon, gigantic and gooey caramel rolls, biscuits and gravy, Eggs Benedict, french toast and incredibly addictive cheesy potatoes.

Grab a spot in the sunny dining room and an $5 endless mimosa when the special starts at noon and you’ve got the buzziest Sunday morning party in town. And be sure to soak up the sun on the wraparound patio when the weather warms up.

If you’re not in the Fargo-Moorhead area, don’t worry — there are Granite City locations across Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Iowa.
