Can you believe we’re already halfway through the 12 Days of Christmas giveaway?
The prize package just hit $1,300 and it’s been fantastic to see everybody getting so excited about local businesses. There are so many new stores and artists setting up shop every month, so there’s a lot to tell you about. And even established businesses up their game during the holiday season.
So here’s a blogger confession for you. Sometimes I have an idea what I want to say when I sit down to write a post. And sometimes I totally just call people up and we chat about things we love.
And you know what? Sometimes when I wing it, it ends up about 1,000% better than any nonsense I would have dreamed up anyway. A recent conversation with Rachael Eider of RH Standard was just like that.
Rachael was once a stylist, and she knows that developing a strong, personalized look is important. RH Standard stocks classic pieces from luxury brands that will stand the test of time and gorgeous accessories and accents to serve as statement pieces. The staff members are there to help you tie it all together. And this time of year, they turn their collective expertise to gift giving as well.
“It is the holidays, so I do like to have special things,” says Rachael. “Almost every gift item is local in some way, shape or form. These are incredible, super luxurious gifts that someone would just die to open.”
Rachael’s dad stumbled across Itasca Leatherworks, located in tiny Lake George, “just a blink between Bemidji, Walker and Park Rapids” and told his daughter that he thought the handsomely rugged leather bags would sell. He was right — she’s barely been able to keep them in stock.
Rachael raves about the quality of the product. “You have never seen work like this in your life,” she says. “It’s all made in America, from all-American cowhide. There is a guy in the back of a store who cuts to order. They make messenger bags, a weekender bag and cross body bags. They’re just incredible.”
Big knit blankets like the one shown at the top of the post are also popular, as are thick, cozy socks for both men and women. And when the temperature plummets, you can’t beat the cuddly warmth of fur.
RH Standard also carries handmade soaps and an exclusive line of Minnesota-made men’s grooming products. The kits contain beard balm, a hydrating pre-shave oil and a post-shave spray in beautiful cobalt blue bottles. Three different scents are available.
