I met Molly McDermott earlier this year when I photographed her for a Street Style winter column (see it here) and we’ve kept in touch, since I can always use more creative, vintage-loving folks in my orbit.
We reconnected at a sunny bistro table at Dunn Bros and, of course, Molly looked both fabulous and entirely original.
It was hot and windy, so Molly kept her look breezy, opting for filmy garments in light-reflecting white and blush, accented with a mix of practical and whimsical accessories.
Gotta love the combination of sensible sneakers and a tooth ring!
Nearly everything Molly is wearing comes from thrift stores or antique markets — she’s a frequent shopper for her Etsy shop, Vice Thigh Vintage — but you can get the look by layering different shades of white, ivory or nude and accenting them with pops of brown and cream.
Fabric choices are very important in the heat, so take inspiration from Molly and opt for lightweight, lingerie-inspired tops and breezy skirts.

After Molly’s last feature, I got a few questions about Molly’s striking violet-grey hair. So of course, I had to ask her about it. Here’s how the fearless among you can get the look for yourselves.
How to Get Grey Hair – By Molly McDermott
* Bleach hair (I use an Argan infused 30 vol. for the developer and bleach powder that smells like green apples)
* Let hair air dry to prevent breakage
* Mix one part Wella 050 with two parts Vol. 20
* Brush through hair to distribute evenly
* Let sit for 20 minutes or until hair is a deep navy/grey
*Rinse with cold water and be sure to use a deep conditioning treatment
My favorite “blue” shampoo is Aveda’s Blue Malva which keeps hair bright and brass free.
