Street Style: Monica

I was ogling vintage handbags (it’s an obsession, seriously) and collectable bottles for a post on JunkFest in Carrington last weekend when I ran into Monica Owen, a recent high school grad from Brocket, ND.

North Dakota Street Style Stripes and Plaid

The 90s girl in me immediately loved that she mixed a bold stripe with a plaid bag. And she does it right.

The prints work together well, since there’s black in both patterns. And Monica wisely keeps the rest of the outfit simple and casual, pushing up her sleeves, untucking her shirt and accessorizing with fierce gladiator sandals and — I love this — a pair of lucky rabbit’s feet.

Monica was home schooled, and that gave her the freedom to be inspired by what she loves — art and cooking and thrift stores and learning how to sew — instead of the usual hallway fashion show that, (whether you like it or not) is an early sartorial influence on most of us.
