The next time you’re in Moorhead, check out The Basement. It’s a fabulous little shop that features new and vintage clothing for guys and girls, accessories, handmade items and a handful of atmospheric antiques in the lower level of the Moorhead Center Mall.
The store’s merchandise and general vibe are a brilliant mix of influences — rockabilly, pin-up, tattoo, punk and hot rod culture with a dose of monsters and skulls thrown in — which I instantly loved. Owner Amber Fredericks is obviously a kindred spirit.
The Basement is the only local place I can think of that stocks brands like Fluff, Lucky 13, Retro-a-go-go and Sourpuss.
Aren’t these Fluff bags and coin purses adorable? I can’t make up my mind which one I want. I’m leaning towards the devil girl — for today, anyway.
About a quarter of the stock is vintage, but of course that changes all the time.
As with all vintage shopping, I recommend shopping early and often.
And if you see something you like, buy it right away, because it probably won’t be there tomorrow.
That’s probably good advice for everything at The Basement – new clothing and accessories too. Because Fargo-Moorhead is a small community, Amber buys a variety of designs in small quantities and rarely repeats herself, to ensure that her customers can count on a unique look.
The selection is always changing, so it’s worth stopping in every time you’re in the area. I’d also recommend clicking on the link below to find them on Facebook, so you can get updates on all the local in-store events and deals.
Happy treasure hunting!
