Food trucks and street food are having a moment in the FM area, and Verdi’s Italian Market was one of the first on the scene.
Owner Anthony Verdi established the business in 2012 and runs the truck in honor of his grandparents Jon and Sybil Verdi — that’s the two of them in the Verdi’s logo.
I saw the name Verdi and immediately asked if Anthony knew a girl that I used to play with when I was a little kid. Yep — she’s one of his cousins. Small world — the Red River Valley really is one big small town.
So, if you’re in town this weekend and want to check out Verdi’s Italian Market, tell them Prairie Style File sent you and we’ll make the world a little smaller.
The truck will be parked on the corner of Broadway and 4th Avenue North today through Saturday for lunch and dinner. A variety of sandwiches and calzones are on the menu, along with other appetizers like fried ravioli and pizza bites.
Anthony recommended that I try the house speciality, the Italian Beef Sandwich and fries. The meat was juicy and topped with cheese and mild or spicy giardiniera on a dense and chewy roll.
The combination of flavors and textures– especially the meat juices and vinegary vegetable relish — made for a satisfying sandwich.
I also tried the fried ravioli, which was stuffed with rich cheese, dusted with parmesan and served with marinara sauce for dipping.
