What I’m Wearing: Getting Outside My Comfort Zone

My go-to neutrals are black and gray and I love structured pieces, so when H&M sent over this beige crepe top for me to style as part of their 50 States of Fashion Contest (read more about my experiments here) I was like, hmmmmmm….

For one thing, it’s loose. The website calls it a blouse (a blouse, people)! And did I mention it’s beige? I was definitely out of my comfort zone.

But then I put it on — and I kind of fell in love with it. I like that it’s longer in the back, with slightly raw edges, which add that little bit of roughness that I love. And it’s incredibly versatile.

It’s lightweight, so it’s great with shorts and sandals, but it also works for fall — I’ll show you how in a new Now and Later post later this month.

I wore this look shopping, but it would work for an outdoor concert or a day at the lake too.

I’m considering buying another one — in black, of course. Old habits die hard.

Don’t forget to tag your Instagram pics #HMShopOnlineND (or your state’s abbreviation) for a chance to win a $1,000 shopping spree and a trip to New York Fashion Week! The contest closes August 21. Get all the details here.
