Summer Accessories Forecast from Oh, Suzanne!

Oversized Sunglasses from Oh Suzanne

Is it summer yet?

I caught up with Suzanne Monsebroten, the owner of Oh, Suzanne! a jewelry and accessories shop tucked away in a little cottage at Shady Hollow Flea Market just outside of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Her shop does a brisk business with women who combine a bohemian look with eye-catching accents.

Since she both sells and sees summer accessories all day long, she’s a great source to tell us what’s next this season.

Neon Infinity Scarves “Neon is still a big seller,” said Suzanne as she showed me around her little shop.

I can see why. The graphic brights look great against neutrals and really pop when worn together. And the infinity scarf is so easy to wear.

Side Cross Bracelets I love this twist on a classic motif — and side crosses like these have been popping up everywhere.

Bracelets are a great way to experiment with color and texture because they look great layered and the cross element ties everything together.

70’s Style Cocktail Rings “We’re seeing more color and less metal this season,” said Suzanne. “And turquoise always sells well in the summer.”

Chunky statement rings like these look great when worn with something simple like jeans and a T-shirt or a breezy summer dress.

Varsity Style Stripes I’d never heard these preppy stripes referred to as varsity style, but I think it’s a perfect description.

Add a little zing to your look with a scarf in this summer’s color palette – try coral, teal or citron.

Vintage Brooches Suzanne stocks a variety of beautiful vintage brooches, which — thanks to Etsy and Pinterest — are extremely popular with brides who are looking to add a little sparkle to their bouquets or headpieces.

The look doesn’t have to read bridal, though. Use a brooch to pin a scarf, re-purpose it as a hair accessory for evening or cluster a few special pieces on a hat, bag or collar.

Handmade Pendants “People really like anything that’s handmade looking,” said Suzanne.

These pendants come from a vendor in Minnesota and they’re both personalized and very affordable — Oh, Suzanne! offers two pendants for $20, plus a free necklace, so you can customize your favorite combinations.

Don’t forget to look for Suzanne at the market this summer. Her boutique is located in the white buildings at the south end of the market, closest to Highway 59.
