I took a little road trip to Bemidji a few weeks back (which you already know if you’ve read my Street Style profiles on Paul, Aubrey and Sonja over the past few days) and I have to say, the city really surprised me.
There are some great little shops, scenic trails, pretty neighborhoods and lots of public art, all within walking distance of the lake.
Yellow Umbrella was my favorite discovery. It’s owned by sisters-in-law Jen and Jennifer Pomp and their husbands Jon and Andy (I really have no idea who goes with who — sorry!) and it features unique, handmade gifts, housewares, jewelry and original art from regional artists.
I recognized some of the artists from Unglued in Fargo, but there’s a lot of local talent represented as well, like friendly artist/clerk Emily Wendland.
Because I am an absolute junkie, I bought this incredible giclée print by Hollie Chastain.
I’m obsessed with it. It’s going to look incredible in our orange guest room next to some super-cheap prints we bought off of a Montmartre postcard vendor in Paris.
Their online store contains items for kids and babies right now, but God help me if/when they get the full selection up on the website!
What do you shop for at Yellow Umbrella? What kinds of handmade goods are on your wish list? Where do you stop when you’re in Bemidji?
